Interns will learn & gain experience in…

  • How a wildlife rehabilitation center operates

  • Species identification of mammal, raptor, and songbird species

  • Wildlife husbandry

  • Medical triage & continued care of sick & injured animals

  • Care of infant wildlife

Tasks

  • Observe & assist with intake exams

  • Bottle feed baby mammals

  • Hand feed baby songbirds

  • Facility maintenance (including laundry, dishes, sweeping, mopping, enclosure cleaning)

  • Prepare diets

Interns must be comfortable with

  • Working with wild animals that may have zoonotic diseases

  • Working with wild animals that may bite and/or scratch

  • Doing lots of cleaning

  • Working outside on hot days (with breaks, we have AC inside)

  • Euthanasia of wildlife that cannot be released (interns will not be euthanizing animals)

  • Handling deceased rodents (for feeding out to our patients)
